Continuing a legacy of care.

A not-for-profit dedicated to safer, better supported accommodation for those who need it most. Because everyone deserves a safe, dignified place to call home.

The Lorraine Gorman Foundation

The Lorraine Gorman Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation serving to promote and improve the living conditions of those in the supported accommodation sector.

The Lorraine Gorman Foundation exists in the gap left behind when housing, mental health and disability systems each do their job, and still, someone falls through. We hold that line in two ways: strengthening the providers who deliver care, and working to build safe, permanent homes for the people care systems overlook.

Our vision is for everyone to have a right to a safe and comfortable environment that they can call home.

The last line of defence for people every other system has failed.

Why We Exist

Housing is becoming an increasingly difficult issue for many Australians, and nowhere is that felt more acutely than among the vulnerable people our systems were supposed to protect. For decades, people with severe disability have cycled through unregulated boarding houses, unsuitable share-housing, and unsafe accommodation. Housed, but unsupported, and largely invisible to the policy frameworks meant to reach them.

The Lorraine Gorman Foundation was founded to change that. We are a not-for-profit organisation working to improve living conditions in the supported accommodation sector, particularly for people whom Australia's disability, housing and mental health systems have struggled to reach.

How we hold the line

Two arms. One purpose.

The Lorraine Gorman Foundation works from both sides of the gap — equipping the providers who deliver care every day, and working towards building the accommodation and community presence that gives people somewhere safe to land.

Our mission is that in years to come, there will be fewer unsafe facilities and outdated practices, with more certified supported accommodations providing the highest level of services and care.

The Lorraine Gorman Foundation is working towards shifting how the industry is perceived and away from the institutionalised living that it was once known for to a more person-centred and community-based one.

The Lorraine Gorman Foundation works with residential providers to navigate the challenges of day-to-day operations and the complexity of the ever-changing governance and compliance requirements within the supported accommodation industry.

With almost 60 years of industry experience, our team can equip you with detailed support, ideas, and resources you can implement long-term that are affordable and sustainable.

Services for Providers

Our Community Footprint

Beyond policy and training, The Lorraine Gorman Foundation is focused on improving real outcomes for people through community-focused initiatives. Our work in the community takes many forms, but it always starts with the same commitment - meeting real need with real action.

From working towards building new, purpose-built homes for those who need somewhere safe to call their own, to restoring older properties and giving them a second life as dignified places to live, to our annual Christmas giveaway project bringing warmth and connection to families doing it tough, our community footprint reaches wherever it's needed most.
